Tar. All the way to the main road! Yes, finally, months and months later, the road has been restored to its former splendour although, to be honest, we think it's actually a little better. Those trucks rumbling along that poor dirt road, gouging furrows with those wheels heavy from hauling earth, are but a distant memory - and just as well too because those poor plovers (and S) have had enough to contend with with those road-making dutes. The macadamiser was still there this afternoon as I drove in but it is parked near the road and has its "going home" happy face on - as in it is is no longer pointing "down" the lane. I will check as I go through in the morning (it was all too much to take in as I rounded the bend in the gathering gloom of early evening) to see whether there is still a chasm in front of the letterboxes or whether they have been able to "fix" that as well.
The frogs are out again this evening, as are Beaz and Maggie. they are under strict instructions to come when they are called tonight otherwise ... we will be staying up later again. We would prefer not to especially as L and E are coming tomorrow and since I am doing only a half day, I want to get in early - as well as fitting in breakfast and a good clean-out of the boot ... and possibly a car wash. Now, there's an idea, why doesn't the car wash have lockers where you can put all the stuff you actually do store in the boot (hmmm ... perhaps that is where those five-months missing jeans are) until you've taken visitors to and from the airport?
Speaking of all things "airport" ... communication with the Great K is underway and he is due back on Tuesday but will ring tonight (ahem ... at 9:50 that may now not happen this evening) to discuss the details. (His shirt has been washed and has not been put back where it was. Strangely, Maggie has now lost all interest in that spot.)
Brother W and K will be in Brisbane in a minute on their cruise. Amazingly their ship keeps being in the news. It was from it that the man was airlifted to the Gold Coast recently with what was thought to be meningitis but was instead some other "mystery" disease - which still remains a mystery as I've seen no follow-ups on the story. It is also the same ship which hit the news today with the release on YouTube of video from 2008 showing furniture and passengers being "tossed around" during a severe storm, seven-metre swells and 50 knot winds. The sea-faring life may be for some but not for me ... especially given reports of those super-liners they have sailing out of America where they have tried to turn at least one of them way too quickly and passengers in their cabins end up looking at sea or sky as the ship tilts 45 degrees. Nope, give me air travel any day, especially if it's as amazing as the Russian flight earlier this week where the power gave out at cruising altitude and the pilot managed to glide the plane on to an unused runway, and land at speed, without flaps, with no loss of life. But not everyone wants to fly ... according to news reports of the "crash", all of the stranded passengers (the plane is bogged and not going anywhere quickly even if the original malfunction was fixed) had made it safely to Moscow on another flight - except for one couple who preferred to travel by train after their ordeal.
It's started to rain here now (to add to the 20mm we had earlier in the week) and I'm hopeful that it will continue to do so throughout the night, peter out by morning, be overcast tomorrow (and Swell viewing) and then totally fine for Saturday - hereinafter known as "Mowing Day" - otherwise it will be time to start issuing those machetes as the grass continues to do what it does best!
It's almost MasterChef time again - if you want to be a contestant for the 2011 series. Applications close at midnight next Sunday night. And Junior MC is due to hit our screens any moment now.
The boot "problem" has been solved - as I was replacing Pearl's blanket, water paraphernalia and lead back into the Honda it occurred to me that there was plenty of room in there for the items that weren't going to find their way into the rubbish, the laundry, the wardrobe, the shed ... wow, who knew Lars' boot was so big! Now that's what I call a spare.
And so we get ready to have Pearl go out one more time, chin chuck and pat the other furries and turn in for a good night's rest so we're ready to play with L and E tomorrow.
