H had a good time looking through our "at-home" moving collection and finally settled on "Land of the Lost" which he was going to watch in bed. But he didn't get to go to bed until there had been a game of "Nerf" - made all the better because M had invested in more darts so you could reload without having to go and find the darts just fired. It made for a much quicker game although I am still a little disappointed that the guns keep jamming - and that they can be so difficult to clear - especially when someone is bombarding your with soft foam rubber projectiles. They don't hurt but you still can't help but take up a defensive stance!
S made H's favourite for dinner - spaghetti bolognese and he seemed to enjoy it very much - even though it was a little spicy. He and S are a bit alike - both of them smother the bolognese part of the dish with tomato sauce. And while there were no hidden vegetables in the dinner (or so S told us) there was a very healthy, tasty salad made by M.
M spent the day mostly in today which was probably a nice change for her as she has been out visiting or entertaining little H almost since he and Me arrived a month ago.
I was reminded yesterday of one of the great things about living out of the suburbs - on the way home it was like that scene out of "Australia" (the movie) where Hugh Jackman is driving Nicole Kidman out to the property and there is a kangaroo bounding along beside their truck. Usually the kangaroos along the road home stand there and bound away over the nearest paddock but this afternoon the roo bounced along beside the car for a bit, then crossed into the middle of the road (I was going slowly enough that it wasn't a problem) before finally taking off over a fence. It was such a thrill to see! But much less of one later that evening as I drove back into Broadbeach and found that a kangaroo had been hit by a car further up Gilston Road. I was sure mine had been going in the other direction but in the hour between sightings he could have made his way back up to the main road. This is one of the down sides of not living in the suburbs - because eventually the suburbs are creeping out this way - destroying native fauna and flora habitat on the way. They call it progress but I'm not so sure that's the right name for it.
