It's just not the same around Latimers with S away. And it's not just us who will notice her absence; the ratings folk are probably studying their spreadsheets and re-checking their data trying to work out why the televisions here haven't been switched on over the last few days! S did set programs to tape before she left and that's one of the reasons I'm not approaching the set - as sure as eggs (why do they say that as though it means something?) if I get involved in a program the "too many programs set to a record/watch" notification will come up and I'll have to turn off what I was planning to watch fear I choose the wrong option - nope, best I stick with my usual series on the DVD/computer ... afterall it's not like I have nothing lined up to watch!
Tinka is missing S as well, but the non-human missing S the most is Pearl. She has spent most of S's daytime absence next to her bed practicing her puppy-dog eyes. She is quite expert at them now. But at least she's still coming for walks down the lane - and she seems to be enjoying them!
Tinka was off to the vet on Monday and a reading of 18.5 has her on a slightly increased insulin dose of 6 (morning and night) - which will be slightly easier to administer than 5.5 or "5 and a smidge". She's not due back to the Vet for another month but she seemed to have forgotten that last night when she raced off up the yard as M approached with her shot. M took off after her and called Pearl out to help "round her up" but really (M assured me) to act as a distraction so M could scoop Tink up as she tried to work out what Pearl was doing. Would that it had been that easy tonight! When M parked, Tink was "there" but after M unloaded the shopping and prepared the cat dinners, and Tinka's shot, Tinka had vanished, disappeared, gone - and she would not come when called. In the end, M and I left without sighting her. Hmmm ... she's very smart in some ways - but she obviously doesn't listen - or take note of her Vet appointments! I was definitely a bit surprised by Tink's behaviour - I hadn't seen this (especially the running away) before.
Since S is away, I took her place at Ferry Road breakfast this morning ... and I have to agree with them - it is a lovely way to start a Wednesday! It was a very simple breakfast - fresh bread, butter, apricot jam, cheese and coffee but it truly hit the spot ... and had me on the go and in the exact right frame of mind to finish some job applications and get them away.
I managed to resist the call of the bicycle - which is just sitting out the front, watching, waiting, to see who will be the next to approach it. Maggie went to sit in the basket out the front the other day, but when she noticed the bicycle just beside it, she thought better of it and walked away.
M did Aqua this evening. There were 14 participants including Sy and An. The warm down was very cool and very colourful - with the pool full of women floating with their pool noodles, ends pointing to the sky, supporting them. Then, it was off to Mouse's for dinner - soup and sauce and multi-coloured pasta! Very nice indeed. And we saw some of the leftovers she'd had when she cooked for D - it's a shame S is away because she would truly have loved the salmon rissoles, mashed potatoes and asparagus spears!
But S does appear to be enjoying her time away - but she is fairly tired at the end of the day! But at least the hot water had been restored at the facility they're staying in so they were able to have decent showers this morning. It's amazing how something so simple can change how your day starts - and serves also to remind us how lucky we are to live in a country where hot water - and water generally - is so readily available!
